Happenings...... (Notes from Prince which are updated when the spirit moves him.
****check out pictures from last year's (2007) South Texas Classic (see backstage pictures too!)
Lot’s of happenings and major updates so here we go.
First off the 2nd annual Prince Fontenot’s South Texas Classic is ready to go! This year is going to be bigger and better than ever! To get your application or latest updates, go to our South Texas Classic page. We are also having a separate military and public safety division this year, so all you military, police, firefighter, and EMS guys, come on out!).
First off, the title sponsors are going to be Posedown Magazine, “the only hardcore magazine in the state of Texas”. These are the guys who gave my first show front cover exposure and ensured a lot of athletes got what you’d think everyone would be grateful for and that’s major coverage. Bob and Laura are giving us the biggest boost our show could possibly get.
IFBB fitness pro Trish Warren is going to grace our stage (fresh off a 2nd place victory at the New York Fitness Pro show). And to top it off Kevin Leverone is coming in to do a seminar for the athletes. Let me make this clear, all this is due to our association with Posedown and we thank god they’re friends of ours. I was blessed to get a chance to write for their magazine and I haven’t looked back since. They allowed me room to release some of this commentary in my head (them damn voices). Without a doubt these are good hearted folks who stand up for the principles and morals that are often lacking in our society today. I really appreciate these folks and can’t thank them enough.
Darren Mathews owner of Max Muscle in Stone Oak is also a sponsor of the show. What a wonderful guy. In our meeting he offered all types of help so if anyone’s on the north side of San Antonio, stop in to see him. If you’re looking for tickets to the South Texas Classic you can purchase them there (check our South Texas Classic page for all ticket outlets).
Also on the sponsor list are Miguel and Adriana Rojas owners of Pura Nutrition and Olympus Muscle and Fitness. Let me take a moment to send my heartfelt appreciation and thanks to this couple. Last year I got the idea in my head to do the Nationals. These folks decided to take care of me. When I say take care I don’t mean figuratively. Everything that could go wrong did and it was thru Miguel that I even made the Nationals let alone placed 6th in it. He looked out for me and I’ll be forever indebted to him and all of his family. Here’s a guy I known for at least 5 years and thru advice and training he’s transcended many problems I had and never once asked for anything in return. After the Nationals he threw himself into his businesses and made Pura Nutrition one of the most successful stores in Texas. His gym was already on top and he made it even more successful. I give thanks to his wife because in order to give me this much attention some had to be taken away from his family. To yall I am forever indebted. I haven’t called him a whole lot since the Nationals but that’s only because I don’t want to use up anymore of his time but rest assure if and when he needs me I stand ready and I’m just a phone call away.
In the last year I was also reacquainted with an old Team Universe alumni “The Predator” Kai Greene. Talk about a talented Brother. I’ve stolen so many moves from Kai I should write him a royalty check. He is truly one of the most positive people I’ve ever met in my life and thru the Nationals prep he also called and wished me well continually. Big Props to him and look for his star in the future because it’ll be shining brightly. Congrats on the 4th place at the Arnold and here’s to continued success in the future.
And last year’s guest poser a gentleman you may know as The Terminator Vince Taylor has become a great friend of mine. Talk about down to earth. This man has not let one month go by without us having some type of conversation, talk about humble. I am proud to call him my friend.
Finally without going into details Red’s gym has been officially sold. March 28th I officially resigned as general manager and took my owner’s 20% and moved to Joe’s gym on Fredricksburg. Throughout my training for the Nationals Joe Castillo was phenomenal to me. His gym was without a doubt the only choice I was going to make when it came to training my people and utilizing my talents. My love of this game came back a hundredfold and I’m happy again Thank you Joe for all you’ve done for me.
Onward and upward. See you at the South Texas!!
